Sunday Funday: Week In Review {8}

February 8, 2015 by Bernadette ~ The Bumbling Bookworm

Sunday Funday is a post created by the wonderful Cristina of Girl in the Pages, as a way of recapping the bookish and not-so-bookish goings on of the past week.  So here we go!

January 18 – February 8

Hiya!  So, I think I’m finally back on track, with EVERYTHING – blogging, reading, work, exercise, and my personal life… And not a minute to soon, I was going CRAZY with all the things I had going on, and the blog definitely suffered.  Well, here’s hoping that doesn’t happen again 🙂

This week has been pretty chilled, I haven’t been doing all that much.  I finally had a weekend where I didn’t go anywhere, that hasn’t happened since mid-November 2014, so that was nice!  Last weekend I had a quick trip to Melbourne, and the weekend before that I’d been there for a week.  I’m not going anywhere next weekend either, and I can’t remember the last time I stayed home two weekends in a row! My cousin has gone back home to Italy, so that’s certainly helped slow things down over the last two weeks.

While I was in Melbourne a few weeks ago, I hit up the Australian Open, it was SO much fun!  I went on the first two days and got to see some really great matches.  It’s always especially fun to watch the Aussies play, the atmosphere is electric especially with the Fanatics there.  The Fanatics are pretty much a cheer squad, all they do is go to Australian sporting events and cheer for the Aussies.  They do a really great job!  Next year I’m hoping to see Lleyton Hewitt, I’ve never seen him play live before, except at a fundraiser, and it’ll be my last chance since he’ll be retiring there.

I tell you what though, all the travel has really gotten to me lately. I could handle having the busy social life and work life that I’ve had over the past two and a half months if it didn’t involve a three hour round trip each weekend along with travel for work during the week.  This has definitely stiffened my resolve to move back to Melbourne this year, at least that’ll remove the travel element.  It doesn’t sound like a lot of travel, but it’s a huge time suck, not to mention tiring.  Also, if I never have to pack or unpack again, it’ll be too soon.  OVER IT 😀

What I’m…

I’m almost done with my Harry Potter re-read!  Since my last post, I’ve read the first five books and I’m on to book number 6, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.  I can’t believe how quickly I’m powering through them, I was going to read other books in between but I’ve found myself to be addicted!  When I finish one, I immediately pick up the next one and pick up where I left off 🙂

I’ve also found that I’m reading a lot more this year than I was last year.  Admittedly this is probably due to the Harry Potter re-read, but even without the HP books I’ve already read more this year than I had at the same time last year.

All the usual stuff is back on TV, and not a moment too soon!  There’s been stuff all on over the past two and a half months, and I’m well and truly over it.  I’ve started watching The Block and MKR again, and I’m sure it’ll ramp up over the next couple of weeks 🙂

  1. YAY!!!! Ooh if you come back to Melbourne then you can attend all the Melbourne events too!! Sounds like it’s nice to have a nice quiet weekend. I KNOW WHAT THAT FEELS LIKE!! But evidently, it’s healthy to. 🙂
    I really really REALLY want to do a HP re-readathon after reading all your blog posts from Friday night! I really loved reading them Saturday/yesterday when I got back on track after going on year 12 retreat. And now for another busy week in year 12, which includes an English oral. *cringes*
    Have a good week this week! Hopefully it’s not as stressful as mine. 😛

    • If I return to Melbourne, it’ll certainly make it easier to attend the Melbourne events. I had to miss out last year because they just didn’t work out, and it’s kinda hard to justify travelling for three hours on a weeknight when the event barely goes for an hour most of the time…
      I’ve just finished my HP readathon tonight, and it was just fantastic, like re-visiting old friends and haunts. I actually can’t believe I managed to read the last four books in the space of a week whilst still working, socialising, watching TV, etc… That’s 2618 pages! To quote Ron, I’m ‘mental’… Hopefully you find time for a re-read soon, Half Blood Prince came out when I was in year 12 and I managed to squeeze it in – of course, there was only six books back then!

Hi! I'm Bernadette, a 27 year old lawyer who loves to read (duh!), especially to escape my day job. I love to talk about books but I don't always get the opportunity to do so, hence my blog! I adore YA literature, most genres of Adult Fiction, and I've also been known to pick up a non-fiction book from time to time. I hope you enjoy your visit!
