The Liebster Award!

October 18, 2014 by Bernadette ~ The Bumbling Bookworm

I’ve been nominated for the Liebster Award by Dani of Only Books and Horses!  Thanks Dani!  Make sure you check out her blog 🙂

The idea of the Liebster Award is it comes from one small blogger (i.e. 200 followers or less) to another, supporting and promoting one another.  This was pretty much my reaction to being nominated:

To say I was excited is a bit of an understatement!

The rules are as follows:

  1. Link & Thank the blogger who nominated you
  2. Answer the 11 questions your nominator gives you
  3. Tag 11 other bloggers who have 200 or less followers
  4. Ask the 11 bloggers you nominated 11 questions and let them know you nominated them!

So here’s goes nothing!

1. What was the last book that made you laugh?

Rusty Nailed by Alice Clayton (review).  I don’t usually laugh when I read, but Clayton has a way of bringing it out of me!

2. What amazing book do you think has a horrible cover?

I don’t like the cover on my edition of Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta.  I’ve never liked it, and it actually puts me off from reading the book at times – and this is one of my favourite books.  It just doesn’t feel like it is relevant to the book AT ALL.  That being said, I can’t say I’m a fan of any of the other covers for this book either.

3. When did you start blogging?

I started blogging in January 2014.  I’d been wanting to do it for a while but I just didn’t really know how.  Also, I don’t really stick to a hobby when I start it – I usually lose interest pretty quickly.  I’m surprised I’ve stuck with it as long as I have!

4. Do you have a favourite author (or authors)?

There’s no way I can keep this to one so I’m just going to list them!  Here goes:

  • Melina Marchetta
  • Morgan Matson
  • Monica McInerney
  • JK Rowling
  • Jane Austen
  • Stephanie Perkins
  • Rainbow Rowell
  • Louisa May Alcott
  • LM Montgomery

5. What’s your favourite movie adaptation of a book?

This is the first one that comes to mind, Looking for Alibrandi, based on the book by Melina Marchetta.  Everything was absolutely fantastic – the casting, the storyline, the setting, everything.  There were a few small changes made but it was all very true to the book.  Of course, that’s to be expected given Melina Marchetta also wrote the screenplay!  It’s hard to believe this came out 14 years ago, it’s still incredibly relevant today.  Check it out if you can get your hands on a copy.

6. Is there a book that has changed your life, or the way you see the world?

I’ve gotta go with the whole Harry Potter experience for this one – the books, the films, everything about it really!  These books consumed my high school years and kept me reading during my university years when I wasn’t reading much else.  This series definitely changed my life, no doubt about it!

7. Do you have a favourite genre to read?

I read A LOT of contemporary young adult, romance is usually a key feature 🙂 That being said, I’ve started branching out recently into fantasy YA and other genres I wouldn’t normally read.  I always think I’m not going to like it and then I end up liking it, so what would I know!  Clearly I have no idea 🙂

8. Opinion: should people bend covers and dog-ear pages?

I don’t mind dog-earring pages of my own books, but I’m against it if it’s a library book or if I’ve borrowed it from a friend.  Same goes if I’ve lent my books out, no-one can dog-ear them but me!  As for bending covers, that’s a NO-NO at all times, I don’t see the purpose in this.  Just NO.

9. Where do you get most of your books?

At the moment it seems to be Big W, a department store here in Australia that’s kinda similar to Walmart or Target (we have Target but not Walmart).  Every time I go in I find myself leaving with a book, even if I went in to buy something else!  I also buy books on The Book Depository – I’d prefer to support Aussie bookshops (Dymocks, Collins, etc) but it’s so damn expensive.  That being said, it’s been quite a while since I’ve bought books on TBD, I seem to be buying more in store at the moment.

10. What music (if any) do you listen to while you read?

I don’t listen to music while I read, unless if I’m in a car/bus/train/plane and I need to forget that I’m in a moving vehicle – helps with my carsickness, strangely enough.  I usually have the TV in the background when I read; I need to do something to pass time during all those stupid ads!

11. What book will you force upon your kids (whether your kids are hypothetical or real)?

The Complete Tales of Beatrix Potter has a place very near and dear to my heart.  My parents gave me this book in 1994 for my sixth birthday; I adored it then and I love it just as much now.  The illustrations are so beautiful and make this great read even better.  Definitely a book I’d force upon my hypothetical kids, along with many others I’m sure.

So there you have it, those are my answers!  And here are the blogs I nominate (go check them out!):

(Sorry, I can’t think of any more!)

And my 11 questions are:

  1. When did you start blogging and why?
  2. What book have you been wanting to read for a while but haven’t read yet?
  3. Has a book ever made you want to travel somewhere, and if so where?
  4. How do you choose what book to read next: are you a mood reader or do you stick to a schedule?
  5. Where is your favourite place to read?
  6. Which do you prefer: reading the book before watching the movie adaptation, vice versa, or neither?
  7. What’s your favourite book cover?
  8. When was the last time a book made you cry?
  9. What was your favourite book and author as a child?
  10. Do you prefer to read e-books or physical books?
  11. If you had to recommend one book for me to read, what would it be?

There you have it!  Thanks again Dani 😀

I totally agree with you about Saving Francesca- all the covers for that book are atrocious! Someone really needs to design a new one! Anyways, congrats on the award! 🙂

Hi! I'm Bernadette, a 27 year old lawyer who loves to read (duh!), especially to escape my day job. I love to talk about books but I don't always get the opportunity to do so, hence my blog! I adore YA literature, most genres of Adult Fiction, and I've also been known to pick up a non-fiction book from time to time. I hope you enjoy your visit!
