Top Ten Tuesday: Top 10 Books So Far This Year
33June 10, 2014 by Bernadette ~ The Bumbling Bookworm
Top Ten Tuesday is THE bookish meme, hosted by the wonderful ladies at The Broke and the Bookish, the book blog that hooked me on all other book blogs! I’m a sucker for bookish memes, so here we go…
Today’s topic is Top Ten Books So Far This Year! This topic only served to point out to me just how far behind I am in my reading for the year – I’ve read one book in the past month which is ridiculously low for me. But, the slump seems to be ending and things seem to be on the up again, but my list is a bit short for that reason. I’ve left it at eight books… I probably could’ve listed a couple more but I just didn’t feel that the rating I gave those books justified including them in this list. Anyhoo, in no particular order here’s my list 🙂
Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta (review to come)
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (review)
How to Love by Katie Cotugno (review to come)
Where the Stars Still Shine by Trish Doller (review)
#16thingsithoughtweretrue by Janet Gurtler (review to come)
The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith (review)
Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins (review to come)
My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick (review)
There you have it, that’s my list! How about you, what did you have on your list? Have you got any others that you could recommend to me?

Nice list. I need to start picking up more contemporary books, so many people have told me to read Lola and the Boy Next Door.
Start with Anna and the French Kiss, but YES you must read Lola 🙂 I love the contemporary books, as you can probably tell from my list! Thanks for stopping by 🙂
Ooh I really love Marchetta. Saving Francesca made my list, but I haven’t read Alibrandi yet. SOON! I love these choices!
I love Saving Francesca but Alibrandi will always have a soft spot in my heart. It was the first Marchetta book and for a very long time it was the only Marchetta book and I just had to reread it to get my regular dose of awesome. Now I can mix it up a little 🙂 I also relate a lot to Alibrandi, growing up Italo-Australian, this book pretty much nails it!
What was it that you liked about 16 things…? I just got the book and wondered if I should read it?
I enjoyed the friendship building and also the family stuff felt very true to life for me. Also, Twitter was integrated fairly seamlessly, which was pretty amazing in my book! It’s rare that I read a book where texting or social media is used in a way that doesn’t distract from the book, and this is one of those rarities.
MY LIFE NEXT DOOR IS IN MY LIST, TOO! It’s my feel good book and I just want to embrace it. Have read Cath Crowley’s Graffiti Moon? You might want to check it out!
Thanks for the recommendation, I haven’t read that yet! I checked it out on Goodreads and it went straight on the TBR list. I love me a good Aussie author 🙂
I’m really excited to read Lola and the Boy Next Door, I keep seeing Stephanie Perkins popping up everywhere! Love at First Sight made it onto my list too!
I’m uber excited for the end of the trilogy, Isla and the Happily Ever After – it’s out in two months and I could not BE more excited! Thanks for stopping by!
Great list! I’m excited to read Lola and the Boy Next Door! Here’s mine:

Do it! It’s awesome 🙂 I’ve been telling everyone to read it, it’s become an instant favourite. I’ll have to check out your list, thanks for stopping by 🙂
Love The Book Thief 🙂
The Book Thief is amazing. That is all. 😀
I just read Alibrandi for the first time this year too. It didn’t quite make my list, but it was so close. Marchetta’s writing is always stellar.
It wasn’t my first read of Alibrandi but I hadn’t read it for about eight years so it practically felt like a new read! I adore Marchetta’s writing, she’s one of my favourite authors.
Oh, Lola and the Boy Next Door! I love that book. It’s on my list as well! I just posted my review of the sneak peek of Isla and the Happily Ever After on my blog yesterday. I can’t wait to read the whole book. 🙂 Looking forward to your review of Lola.
Here’s my TTT!
I’m so excited for Isla but I’m trying to avoid the hype at the moment – I don’t want ANYTHING to put me off from reading it straight away when it’s released in August! The hype can do that to me, I bought Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell straight away last year and I STILL haven’t read it thanks to the hype monster 🙂
I hate the hype monster. I’m only this excited because I know it’s going to be just as sweet, lovely, and wonderful as the first two in the series. 🙂
I’m really looking forward to How To Love. I’ve heard some amazing things about it.
I really enjoyed it, my review shouldn’t be too far away 🙂
Ah, I loved the Book Thief and Lola! There are still so many amazing books I haven’t gotten to yet.Great list! 🙂
Thanks! And thanks for stopping by 🙂
Lola is one of my favorite books. I love Stephanie Perkins and absolutely can’t wait for Isla and the Happily Ever After! Still haven’t read The Book thief, I need to get to that one soon!
I’m sooooooo excited for Isla, I need to calm down already! If I don’t, the hype will get to me and I’ll be too scared to read it – I don’t want to wait any longer than I have to!
I know! I’ve seen some people already have ARC’s of it and i’m sooo jealous! Did you see the pre-order deal? If you pre-order through this list of independent stores you get a really cute set of buttons too!
I think the ARCs are just the first five chapters – Stephanie Perkins said she wouldn’t be releasing any ARCs to bloggers prior to the book’s release because she wants everyone to read it at the same time, since we’ve all be waiting so long for it 🙂 But I’m jealous even of those people with the five chapters, I couldn’t get it coz I’m in Australia and it was limited to American readers only 😦 I haven’t seen the pre-order deal but I suspect it’s the same thing, I won’t be able to get it through them if they’re in the States. But that’s OK! Book Depository will get me through, I’ve already seen it available on there for preorder 🙂
The Book Thief is fantastic, I must re-read it soon! Jennifer E Smith is on my TBR list, have heard good things 🙂 Here’s my TTT I would really appreciate it if you checked it out 🙂
Agreed about The Book Thief, I need to re-read that one for sure. I love all of Jennifer E Smith’s books that I’ve read so far, she’s an auto-buy author for me 🙂
Great picks. I read My Life Next Door last year and it became an instant favourite, such a brilliant book. I also loved Anna and the French Kiss. Most of the others are on my TBR list so I am pleased to see they made your list.
